Vale Kevin Rowe (1934 - 2020)

Sadly we inform members and associates of Templestowe Rotary Club of the death of Kevin Rowe last Friday. Kevin was a Charter Member of our Rotary Club. He was our third President in 1979/1980. Kevin was awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship in 1990. He was an outstanding Rotarian who worked tirelessly on many Rotary projects. Kevin has been unwell in recent years but still supported Rotary events, like our Schools Anzac Service, by attending in his wheelchair.

We extend our sympathy to Elinor and family.

A Tribute from Past President Graham Couch

I first met Kevin in 1972 when I was an executive at Spaceline Homes and Kevin, who was a Sales representative with Glen Iris Bricks, would call on Spaceline to sell us bricks. In 1984 I joined Templestowe Rotary Club and was fortunate to have much more contact with Kevin and meet his delightful wife, Elinor. To be in Kevin’s company was an absolute pleasure. When asked, Kevin was very forthright in giving his opinion and spoke it as he saw it, never holding back. He was a great family man. He adored Elinor and their children, Deryn, Duane and Troy. They worked so hard together on many projects including running a Newsagency business.

Kevin was a wonderful Rotarian and a gentleman to the core. His commitment to Templestowe Rotary Club activities and community service, so ably supported by Elinor, was absolute. For decades Kevin and Elinor produced for each serving President a magnificent album of the Club’s activities for their year of office. It was always a wonderful and very comprehensive production and so very much appreciated by each President.

Kevin Rowe was a genuine “ Good Bloke “ who will be sadly missed.

Note from Peter Gurry - Past President and Charter Member

Kevin was a keen and skilful cricketer and footballer. In 1959, years before the birth of Templestowe Rotary Club, Kevin Rowe [ Full Forward ] and Peter Gurry [Captain and Coach ] played with Heidelberg Football Club in the Diamond Valley League Grand Final defeating the old enemy Greensborough by nine goals! Kevin was a loyal and supportive team member who gave his all for the Football Club.

Eighteen years later we teamed up as Charter Members of The Rotary Club of Templestowe!

Kevin was loved by all and will be sadly missed.
