President's Message Sept 2022

President's Message Sept 2022

Hi all. As the days grow longer and the weather generally improves (despite an ongoing La Nina), we know we are moving into our spring and summer festival season.

There will be an increasing number of events where we can be called upon for BBQ duties and of course, we have our own Manningham Family Festival (MFF) that I’m sure will be another great success.

Kind Cuts for Kids

This week we had Professor Paddy Dewan update us on his amazing work through the Kind Cuts for Kids Foundation. For many years Paddy has been travelling overseas to perform life-changing and in many cases, life-saving urological surgery on kids in countries where the same surgical expertise would not otherwise be available.  It was a very informative night and it was .

Footy Tipping Finale Dinner

Our Footy Tipping Finale Dinner is on Wednesday 14 September - please ensure that you have booked or plan to book very quickly for another Graham Kane night of fun. The dinner will be at the Manningham Club at the usual time of 6.30pm for a 7.00pm start. The cost is $42 for a two-course meal with drinks at bar prices - please book via this TryBooking link (https://www.trybooking.com/CCJNH).

I know there are a few Cats, Magpies, Lions and Demons in the Club, perhaps there are some Dockers…and I know for sure that we have a few Swans - but best of luck to all teams that have progressed this far.  It's a wide open Finals series I reckon.

Future Vehicle Volunteers needed

As we’ve previously noted, the Rotary Clubs of Doncaster, Templestowe and Manningham are running a Future Vehicle Expo and Seminar on Sunday the 23rd of October with many Electric vehicles on display and a multitude of people on hand to answer all your questions about this new world.

IMPORTANT – Regionalisation Project

An online ballot, managed by the Rotary International South Pacific and Philippines Office, will be conducted from Thursday 15th September until 29th September to decide if the proposed Rotary Zone 8 regionalisation pilot will proceed.

The Regionalisation pilot is proposed to explore, develop and test new ways of operating Rotary and Rotaract in our part of the world.  Club Presidents will vote by representing the views of the majority of their members.

Naturally, I will not be voting until I have a clear direction from our Club.

The vote will read:

"This club approves participation in a pilot to develop, test and evaluate a new regional approach to supporting and governing Rotary and Rotaract clubs and members in Zone 8 from July 2023 to June 2026.” Yes or No

For more information the Regionalisation vote fact sheet is available at creatingtomorrowrotary.org

I will ensure that this matter is listed for discussion at a meeting within the voting timeframe or, that I secure each and every members view out of session.

STOP PRESS! – Ann Henderson Scholarship

RC Warrandyte-Donvale has confirmed tonight that it is willing to contribute $500 per year for this scholarship.  This now confirms that all three Cluster Clubs are supporting our Club in this project.  This is a great outcome and we are most appreciative of the support from RC Manningham, RC Doncaster and now, RC Warrandyte-Donvale.

Yours in Rotary,

John Bennie
