President's Message: May 2021
A Melbourne Autumn is really something to behold, and I hope you have had the opportunity to enjoy this!
We’re off to a quick start in May.
Our Doncaster Hill Market was held on Sunday May 2 and it was the cover story featured on the newly launched Manningham Life community magazine. The magazine was distributed to 20,000 households in Manningham, and this helped to draw quite a number of new visitors to the market. If you would like to read the cover story on the market, you can view the online version here.
The Rotary Multi-District Conference was on the same weekend, and two of our projects (Connecting Manningham and our Australia Day Community Lunch) were selected to be highlighted at the conference. Two promo videos were produced, and these can be viewed by clicking on the links above.
Our Connecting Manningham Business Directory also went live that weekend. This is a platform for Manningham businesses and organisations to connect with the 130,000+ residents in our city. Anyone can now go online and create a free listing and we should encourage everyone we know to do just that (just visit connectingmanningham.com.au and click "Add Listing").
Last week, we recognised a number of outstanding contributors to our community with awards for Pride of Workmanship. Our worthy recipients were Liza Dolalas from Blue Cross, Helen Jurcevic from the Women’s Friendship Group, and Anna Burley and Lyn Moore from Days for Girls. We also had our first Corporate Member presentation from Generations Dental (David Chua).
This week (Tues May 11), Connecting Manningham is offering a Zoom presentation to the general public on who lives, works and plays in Manningham. Vicki Martinez will present an interactive session on who makes up Manningham, what they do and what their needs are. Vicki's use of evidence and local data will highlight the true facts of our municipality and open conversation on how we as Rotarians and community members can foster a thriving and resilient community. You can register for this presentation here.
Our other guests speakers for May are David Towl from Access Health and Community (May 12) and Sabina Wills from Keep Victoria Beautiful (May 26). These two organisations do tremendous work in the community, and everyone is welcomed to join us on both evenings. Just pop a note to Dan and he will add you to the guest list.
Lastly, we warmly welcome you and your friends to visit the next Doncaster Hill Market on Sunday June 6. It’s a good opportunity to meet some of our local producers and businesses, and to support them by trying some of their products. In addition, we will be launching our Brunch Corner, where patrons can gather with family and friends, enjoy a cuppa, grab some hot food, and be entertained by local performers. A great way to bring our community together on this side of town.
Yours in Rotary,
Rotary Club of Templestowe
