President's Message: March 2021
Greetings friends and colleagues,
Can you believe it's March already? And where did our summer go?
This week marked my turn to take the reins as Club President, as one of the "Three Musketeers" and co-Presidents for the year. Those of you who joined us for our mini-changeover got to see the three of us in full costume and at our swashbuckling best! (incriminating photos will soon be posted on our website and Facebook).
We also had a fun time with our Lunar New Year Fellowship dinner - over 70 friends joined us that night, including friends from all four Manningham cluster clubs. We enjoyed a Chinese banquet at Wealth Kitchen (Doncaster East) and a mini-trivia contest. There was lots of enthusiastic participation, with the "Golden Ox" team narrowly taking it out by just one point over "Bruce (Almighty) Lee's Team" and "The Kneelers"! We also took the opportunity to kick-off the Footy Tipping Competition and the fundraising for "Kevin Heinz Grow", who deliver therapeutic horticulture services right here in Manningham.
This month is a busy one for us. The Doncaster Hill Market is on this Sunday (March 7), and the "Green Army" will be out in full force looking after our stallholders and guests. There will be about 40 stalls participating, with a good selection of fresh produce, artisan foods and arts and craft. Come join our community in supporting our local producers - we've also lined up lots of local entertainment, so you might just see your neighbour dancing up on stage!
Next Wednesday (Mar 10), we're fortunate to have Andrew Mudgway as our guest speaker. Andrew is with SBS TV and Radio, and he will share some his stories and insights about what it's like working with one of our national treasures. Apparently he got all his talent and charm from his parents (who provided this vital piece of information!).
On March 17, our very own Manningham Rotaractors will be joining our regular meeting and updating us on their activities in the community. If you feel like being inspired by the enthusiasm and creativity of our youth, make sure you join us for this evening. As you know, they have been our partners in our Connecting Manningham outreach program, and they are continuing to expand their reach and influence in our community.
The following week (March 24th), we get to celebrate our Club Birthday! It's our 44th, and we'll be joined by our original sponsor club, the Rotary Club of Doncaster. Double the fun! It will be a great excuse to enjoy some fellowship at Vibrante Restaurant (Templestowe Village) - we will be up in the Tuscany Room by ourselves and will be enjoying a 3-course modern Italian dinner. If you can't make it, send birthday presents!
On March 28th, we will be running the Rotary 100 Relay – this will take place starting at Tunstall Square (at the Warrandyte market) then to Devon Court and then finish at Jackson Court. We are also exploring the opportunity to have a display at Westfield Shopping Centre. We will finish with a BBQ at Schrams Cottage with the opportunity for guided tours.
Finally on March 31st, we'll be talking "Strategy". During lockdown, we conducted a member survey as well as several follow-up focus group sessions over Zoom. At these sessions, we discussed how we were travelling as a club and where we would like to be. We've put all this together into a 3-year strategy and will be presenting this to the club on that night.
Keen on joining us for any of these events? Feel free to email Dan if you have questions or would like to make a booking.
Have a productive month ahead!
