President's Message: July 2020
Hello to all our Rotary Colleagues and friends.
Saturday 4 July saw a changing of guard for the Club, celebrating the leadership of President Brian Tyedin during 2019/20, and welcoming the Three Musketeers, Brian Negus, Brian Tyedin and Felix Wong as Co-Presidents for 2020/21. At the end of last year, we found ourselves in difficult circumstances, with a vacancy for President. So, this year we will have three Presidents, with one of us serving at a time, but all three of us engaged for the year.
We as a club have had to adjust to a new normal, and this has presented challenges for all of us. Despite this we have kicked many goals during the year with the Club receiving a District Citation and a Rotary International Citation for our projects and, communication and promotion with our new website.
The Rotary International theme this year is Rotary Opens Opportunities, a theme which we have certainly pursued already. Our vision for this year is to continue the great work we do in supporting our local, national, and international community’s, but to take some different directions, guided by you, our members. We have distributed a member survey to get ideas on the projects and programs we have in place, what we should continue, what we should reduce, and what are the new areas we should consider. This survey will enable us to plot a comprehensive strategic forward plan.
We will continue innovative ways for us to connect. Given we are again under Level 3 restrictions, online meetings will continue for the foreseeable future. It is difficult to predict when our meetings at the Manningham Club will recommence, and they will be a little different as well, given what we have experienced in the last several months.
We have already started planning the 2020/21 year, with the Connecting Manningham project off and running. We have made a great start with the first phase of the project - “Connect to Programs and Meet New People”, through the great work of the members of Manningham Rotaract. The Facebook page has in excess of 450 members and growing. We will soon move into the next three phases with a targeted approach to – “Connecting to Neighbours and Spread Kindness”, “Call for volunteers to help our community”, and “Connect to Services and Business and Support Local”.
The Family Festival at Finns planning has been underway; however, it now appears unlikely that we will be able to run this great community event this year.
We have also planned a membership promotional activity to attract businesses in our area to join Rotary as Corporate members, but also to attract like-minded people to join as personal members. More to come on this initiative, but our timing will depend on what eventuates with the “new normal” we will face over the next few months.
There will be lots more to come as our new Board meets and each of the Committees meet to plan the year. This year will start as a continuation of the way we have had to operate over the last few months, but hopefully we will be able to move to the “new normal” in whatever form that takes, in a few months.
If you have any ideas or issues you would like us to consider, please contact us through the website contact email.
Kind Regards, Brian Negus
