President's Message - February

President's Message - February

Great to see everyone back after a long break.

Our club through our fund raising will be sending donations to the East Gippsland Rotary Fire appeal.

There has been some concern in the media about Bushfire donations not getting to those in need straight away when donating to large organisations.

We are assured that when we send direct to the Bairnsdale Rotary club that is co ordinating the East Gippsland Bushfire appeal that the monies will be used almost immediately for those in need.

The details of the distribution were published in last month’s newsletter.

In other news, RI is partnering with Toastmasters International and that certainly will add to partnering possibilities.

We already partner with Toastmasters for the judging of our Primary School Speech competitions.

We had a great Fellowship meeting at Keith Andersons house to start off our Rotary year and then another fantastic Fellowship event on Australia Day at the Mudgway’s house.

A Special AGM confirmed the 3 Musketeers - Brian Negus, Brian Tyedin and Felix Wong to be the PE’s for 2020/21. The financials from last year were also approved and accepted.

The Chinese New Year Celebration at MC2 which we were to be a part of on February 8th has been cancelled due to concerns about public safety with the Corona Virus.

We are hosting the Footy tipping launch for the Rotary clubs of Doncaster, Manningham and Templestowe on the on 26th Feb. The proceeds of this Footy tipping competition will go to the REAL organisation, which is for the disabled in our Manningham community.

REAL is putting on a theatre production this year about recycling and saving the environment.

To start this year we have had bushfires, drought, and the Corona Virus, which the WHO has now declared a global emergency.

As Rotarians, we need to see what we can do to help in whatever capacity we can without adding to panic and confusion, or finger pointing, but to be responsible in our actions and statements.

Regards,

Brian Tyedin
