What a way to celebrate Australia Day!

What a way to celebrate Australia Day!

The Rotary Club of Templestowe, together with the Rotary Club of Warrandyte Donvale and Manningham Rotaract organized an Australia Day Community lunch event at Doncaster Shoppingtown Hotel in the Cabaret Room.

We organised the event to recognise the contribution of community groups in our area, to show respect for all Australians, to unite Australians, and to celebrate what it is to be an Australian. Thanks to a grant from the National Australia Day Council, we were able to invite representatives and clients of community groups to join us as our guests.

We invited members of local community groups and some of their significant organizers, carers, and volunteers – people who have really contributed to the successful operation of the group or organization. We suggested several participants - whoever they thought appropriate and deserving - people who are doing it tough as well as those who are deserving of some recognition and thanks for their work.

There was live entertainment, and a live cross via video to the studio broadcast of the combined Australia day and Rotary International event. This central event featured a number of Australian and Rotary dignitaries:

  • The Governor General of the Commonwealth of Australia, His Excellency General, the Hon. David Hurley and Her Excellency, Mrs. Linda Hurley
  • Rotary Patron, Professor Patrick McGorry, AO
  • Ian Riseley, Rotary International President 2017-2018
  • Dr Jesse Harman, Rotary International Director 2021-2023
  • Together with Musical entertainment from well-known Australian musicians, such as Marina Prior and Mike Brady, Josh Piterman, and John Foreman OAM

The event was a huge success with 159 people joining us in the celebration, 105 were sponsored guests from community groups and we had 54 Rotarians and partners. A huge thanks to the Australia Day Council for sponsoring the event, which enabled us to recognise so many amazing people in our community, and also to celebrate 100 years of Rotary in Australia.
