From Graham Kane
The Clarendon Room at The Manningham was superbly festive in a horse-racing theme last Wednesday evening, it was the ideal setting in which President Dan Hession welcomed District Governor Russell Gurney plus members and guests.
Outgoing President Dan reported on the Club`s achievements over his four months of service – the most notable being the successful erection of shade sails at Bulleen Heights Special School. He then passed the baton of leadership on to President Keith Anderson.
The evening then moved into Cup Carnival mode.
A delicious dinner of chicken, followed by strawberries and vanilla ice-cream, was presented. All were given an “interest” in horses which were featured in two humorous video race-calls. District Governor Russell won first prize in “The Greatest Race Never Run” and James Cunningham won ”The Family Camping Handicap” . Between races Graham Kane presented some entertaining ‘Form Guide’ assessments on six colourful Club personalities.
To satisfy demand for more race-calls Michael Mimmo then ran “Parenting the Teenagers Maiden” and “Christmas Day Family Cup” (we thank Jon Vertigan for both these contributions ), were highly amusing and ended the evening on a high.
