Our zoo – inspiring (and taking) action

Presented on July 25, Hannah Goode from Zoos Victoria outlined many of the initiatives currently underway across the three premises of Zoos Victoria.

Encompassing the Melbourne Zoo, Healesville Sanctuary and Werribee Open Range Zoo, Hannah outlined the work that is being done on the 23 species that are listed as endangered and the actions to change behaviour.

The influence of our zoo is  not restricted to education and research, the organisation takes action.  Concerned about the impact of forest clearing on orangutan habitat, to make way for palm oil production, the Zoo through the initiative  Don’t Palm us off has banned products with palm oil – this has led to the removal of all Nestle product from the zoo premises, and boosted the call to action for the clear labeling of products with palm oil to support consumer choice.
