Our club held another very successful Schools ANZAC Service on Thursday 19 April – our 28th service! The weather was very kind and it was a perfect day. All the children were well behaved and attentive. We heard from Deputy Mayor Michelle Kleinert and Hon. Matthew Guy, MP who spoke about the spirit of ANZAC Day and what it means to all of us.
A big thank you to Graeme Cobb and his Community team for organising the event, to Brian Tyedin who did a great job as MC, to all the members who attended and helped on the day, to District Governor Malcolm Chiverton and Assistant Governor Lyndon Smith for attending and a very special thank you to the members of Templestowe RSL who assisted on the day, in particular with the flags. This year was the first time we had both an Australian and New Zealand flag flying at the service and we are grateful to Manningham Council for supplying two new flag poles at the site.
On Wednesday 18 April 2018 we had an extremely interesting presentation from Nic Daws, Doncaster Hill Place Manager from Manningham Council. She explained that by 2030 there will be 5,400 apartments on Doncaster Hill and an increased amount of office and retail space creating increased employment opportunities in the area. Currently over 40% of people living in Manningham, travel outside the council area to go to work. She also mentioned that we will get a Bunnings store with apartments above, Westfield Doncaster will expand further and there will be a water recycling plant in Eram Park in Whitehorse.
This Wednesday night the club will be reviewing the current Rotary year and looking forward to the next year. We will have the services of Daryl Moran from Rotary Club of Rowville/Lysterfield to assist us to pull together the ideas of all those present. This will be an invaluable session and members are encouraged to attend and contribute, so that in 2018/19 we can all “Be the Inspiration”.
Yours in Rotary “Making a Difference”,
