Message from our Club President (Mar 21)

Last Wednesday we heard from District 9810 Chair of Interplast – Elizabeth Guiver.  Elizabeth gave us an up to date briefing on the wonderful work being done by Interplast “changing futures through medical care and training” in the Asia Pacific Region. Not only do the teams provide surgical assistance to those most in need, they also train local doctors and medical staff in those procedures, thereby offering a sustainable program for the future.

On Friday we had our final Bunnings BBQ for this Rotary year and business was brisk. It was a beautiful day and while the helpers who were able to come were a bit stretched it was good fun and the customers were all wonderful and friendly. The Bunnings BBQ has been a very successful fundraiser for this Rotary year.

On Saturday the club loaned 5 marquees to Birralee Primary School in Doncaster for their Autumn Fair Fundraiser and our club also had a stand selling lucky dips and books. A big thank you to David Chua who drove our club’s involvement and thanks are also owed to the helpers on the day including Gysbert Diepeveen, Felix Wong, Brian Tyedin and Michael Mimmo. In addition to assisting the community and raising a bit of money, we also collected some great ideas for our next Finns Family Festival. Congratulations to all involved.

This coming Wednesday we will be hearing from the Executive Manager of Odyssey House about the latest changes to their program and site. Our club has had a very long association with Odyssey House and we look forward to hearing an update on their programs.

All members and partners should mark Wednesday, 28 March, 2018 in their diaries as a fun social night as we are all getting together to celebrate our club’s 41st birthday.

Yours in Rotary “Making a Difference”,

Janis McFarland
Club President
