Message from our Club President (Mar 14)

Last Wednesday we launched our Footy Tipping Competition that our club has shared  with Rotary Club of Doncaster for the last 7 years. It was a great night and Rotary Club Manningham has joined in the competition and now three of the four City of Manningham Rotary clubs are having fun doing footy tipping AND also raising money for Doncare Community Services, our local community support organisation.

PDG David Alexander from the Manningham Club organised an amazing guest speaker, Kevin Sheehan who had everyone listening carefully to his amazing stories of everything from training and recruiting young players to teaching non-English-speaking men from diverse backgrounds to play.

Our club was also represented at the International Women’s Day Breakfast held on Thursday 8 March at Box Hill Town Hall. This was a terrific event with a range of speakers – radio announcer, Chief Medical Officer, a year 12 student and a Detective Superintendent of Victoria Police, all telling inspirational stories. The men and women in the vast audience really appreciated the professionalism of the event which raised $10,000 for the Butterfly Foundation, a very worthwhile organisation that supports people with eating disorders and body image issues.

We had another successful Bunnings BBQ last Friday. A big thank you to all those involved, and we raised $450.00 for the club. Our last BBQ for this Rotary year will be this Friday 16 March 2018.

This week we will receive an update on the great work that Interplast is doing in the world with their training and surgical programs in Asia and the Pacific region. We look forward to hearing Elizabeth Guiver’s presentation.

Yours in Rotary “Making a Difference”,

Janis McFarland
