Message from our Club President (Mar 7)

It has been a huge week in Rotary this week!

On Wednesday 28 February our club joined the Rotary Club of Doncaster at their Gala Dinner for Interplast. We heard an amazing young man, Mike Rolls, speak about his illness, Meningococcal Septicaemia, which resulted in him losing both his legs as well as two fingers. His amazing spirit in the face of such adversity was inspiring. Mike is now an ambassador for Interplast and the evening was a great success with over 70 people present and raising almost $1,000 for Interplast.

Thank you very much Rotary Club of Doncaster, for sharing this great event, with our club.

Last weekend the District 9810 Conference was held in Bendigo at a brand new and amazing venue. A small but enthusiastic contingent from our club attended and thoroughly enjoyed the top rate speakers and the fantastic venue, organisation and inspiration. We were also delighted that our Youth Exchange Program Inbound student, Neele Huebner was selected to speak at the conference, and she did an excellent job – well done Neele. We were also delighted to see Darcy Mitchell, winner of the Rotary Club of Templestowe Primary Speech Contest and subsequent winner of the District 9810 Primary Speech Contest, speak to the huge audience. Darcy again used his drum, was confident, articulate and very easy to listen to. Congratulations Darcy, our club is very proud of you!

This week is the launch of our ever popular Footy Tipping Competition. This competition is a lot of fun and is an event we have shared with RC Doncaster for many years. We are delighted that the Rotary Club of Manningham is now also joining in this competition which raises money for Doncare, our local community and family services organisation in the City of Manningham. The speaker will be Kevin Sheehan from AFL which will be fantastic. This will be a great night for a great cause and anyone can join in the fundraising tipping. There are substantial prizes for First, Second and Third place at the end of the year. Even if you are not very in to football, it can be fun to do the footy tipping for a great cause.

Yours in Rotary “Making a Difference”,
